"Breakdown" tab in work sections

The "Breakdown" tab has been included in the "Data" window for the work sections of the bill of quantities. In previous versions, the "Breakdown" tab was only available for the items, where a table with their breakdown into resources is shown.

Now, the work sub-sections or items that are part of a work section can be displayed in this table.

Price increment

The "Price increment" option has been added to the editing window of the "Project database" or a "Cost database. With this tool, the prices of the concepts contained in the database can now be adjusted according to a "Factor". Furthermore, the application allows users to indicate the nature of the concepts ("Unclassified", "Labour", "Machinery and auxiliary resources" and "Materials") on which the operation is to be applied.

Improved filter options

The following improvements have been made to the "Filter" option, available in the "View" group of the toolbar:

  • A list of filters can now be defined for the project. The selected element will be the one to be applied to the bill of quantities.

  • The "Filter" option has been added to the editing window of the "Project database" or a "Cost database".

  • Filters can be exported as a file (".bib767") to be used in multiple projects.

  • In the list of conditions of a filter, the "Cut", "Copy" and "Paste" tools have been added. These allow conditions to be moved or copied from one filter to another.

  • The "Search text in" and "Parameter" fields have been added to the window for inserting a condition within a filter. This way, the program now allows users to filter by parameters other than the "tag" of the "quantity detail lines", as was the case up to now. In this version, the following options are available for these fields:
    • Search text in: Item
      • Parameter: Code
      • Parameter: Summary
      • Parameter: Type
      • Parameter: Key terms
      • Parameter: Amount
    • Search text in: Breakdown concept
      • Parameter: Code
      • Parameter: Summary
      • Parameter: Type
      • Parameter: Key terms
    • Search text in: Quantity detail line
      • Parameter: Tags

Installation in Polish

As of version 2023.e, CYPEPLUMBING Sanitary Systems, CYPEPLUMBING Water Systems and CYPEPLUMBING Solar Systems can also be installed in Polish.

Graphical editing of the reference system of the model

Since version 2022.a, the applications integrated within the Open BIM workflow via the BIMserver.center platform include a tool for managing project reference systems. This option is available from the configuration window that appears when linking or updating a BIMserver.center project via the "Geographic location and reference system" option. As of version 2023.d, the applications now allow users to run a graphical environment where they can visually define a reference system for their model. To do this, the "Geographic location and reference system" window now contains the "Visual editing of the local reference system of the model" option.

From the "Visual editing of the local reference system of the model" window, the origin and orientation of the reference system of the model can be indicated in the workspace with the "Define the reference system of the partial model" tool. Both the axes of the reference system of the model, which we have just entered and the axes of the reference system of the site can be viewed in the workspace. The latter appears with a "Site" tag.

To make it easier to define the reference system, the 3D models corresponding to the BIMserver.center project contributions selected during the linking process are displayed. The management of the visibility and object snaps of these models is carried out from the "Elements read" menu in the left sidebar of the window. The "Views" menu can also be found in the same options bar, from which different types of 2D and 3D views of the model can be generated. These tools can already be found in several CYPE applications. For more information on how they work, please refer to the User’s Manual for the 3D work environment tools available in CYPE applications.

Apart from 3D models, 2D drawings or plans can also be imported from CAD files (".dxf", ".dwg", ".dwf") or images (".jpeg", ".jpg", ".bmp", ".png", ".wmf", ".emf", ".pcx"). These files and object snaps are managed through the "DXF-DWG Template" and "Template object snaps" options accordingly.

Once the editing is complete, the coordinates and orientation of the reference system of the model with respect to the reference system of the site are moved to the corresponding fields in the "Geographic location and reference system" window.

Font size

The "Font size" option has been added to the general configuration menu of the applications. This tool allows users to increase or decrease the basic size of the font used in the user interface of the programs. Thanks to this implementation, the accessibility of the applications has been improved while also ensuring the correct visibility of the content on devices with different screen resolutions.

To enter a "Basic size" the "Set custom font size" option must be checked. The size users can enter is the application's basic font size. Any other font sizes that may exist in the program's interface will be automatically modified proportionally according to the change in the basic size.

It is important to note that, as this is a common parameter, its modification will affect all installed CYPE tools.

Calculation of the heat flow in the primary and secondary systems

When calculating the heat flow in the primary and secondary system, it is important to account for the energy that is lost along the pipes from the solar collectors to the consumption points, to optimize the sizing of the collection area, which is required to also compensate for that loss of energy.

Up to the 2021.a version, users could contemplate, in a simplified way, the energy that is lost along the length of the pipes from the solar collectors to the accumulators or heat exchangers (primary circuit) and from these to the consumption points (secondary circuit), by considering a global loss coefficient of the circuit or by reducing the performance factor of the circuit.

As of the 2021.a version, "CYPEPLUMBING Solar Systems" calculates the energy loss in these circuits by analysing the path of the pipes and bearing in mind the material, thickness and insulation of these pipes, as well as factors such as temperature, and the discharge and return flow that circulates along them.

User Coordinate System (UCS)

A tool has been added with which users can modify the coordinate system of the application. This tool is being implemented in several applications. In the 2021.a version, the tool is available in the following applications:

  • IFC Builder
  • CYPECAD MEP
  • CYPEHVAC
  • CYPEPLUMBING Sanitary Systems
  • CYPEPLUMBING Water Systems
  • CYPEPLUMBING Solar Systems
  • Open BIM Lighting
  • CYPELUX
  • CYPELUX CTE
  • CYPELUX RECS
  • CYPELUX HQE
  • CYPELUX LEED

Bill of quantities

The "Bill of quantities" tab has been included in the 2020.e version. Now, users have tools that can be used to generate and manage the bill of quantities of the elements that have been introduced in these programs.

More information on this new feature can be found in the "Bill of quantities" tab in project phase Open BIM applications section, which affects several CYPE Open BIM programs.

"Bill of quantities" tab in project phase Open BIM applications

The "Bill of quantities" tab has been added to the toolbar of some of the applications that are integrated in the Open BIM workflow. In the 2020.e version, the first Open BIM programs to have this tab are:

  • Open BIM Quantities (new program of the 2020.e version)
  • CYPE Accessibility
  • CYPE Lightning
  • CYPEPLUMBING Sanitary Systems
  • CYPEPLUMBING Water Systems
  • CYPEPLUMBING Solar Systems
  • CYPEFIRE Hydraulic Systems
  • CYPEHVAC
  • CYPEHVAC Ductwork

This tab will be integrated into the remaining Open BIM applications in upcoming versions.

The "Bill of quantities" tab provides users with tools to generate and manage the bill of quantities of the installation that each program analyses. Within this tab, users can extract the quantities of the model and, based on that information, generate the real project items. This process is carried out using a correspondence system between the elements that have been measured in the design model and the concepts of the bill of quantities (mapping). This equivalence is stored on a local drive or network, so that it can be extended progressively and used in future projects.

In order to enter project prices easily, users can import complete databases as well as individual concepts from cost databases that have been developed in accordance with the FIEBDC-3 standard (.bc3), such as the CYPE construction cost database Generador de precios.

A cost database and mapping example have been included for installation elements for most of the programs that have the bill of quantities tab. Remember that they are just examples and you can create your own mappings and cost databases.

The documents of the bill of quantities can be extracted in several types of reports (Quantities, Cost breakdown structure, Priced bill of quantities, Detailed priced bill of quantities, BoQ summary) and can be exported in HTML, DOCX, PDF, RTF and TXT formats.

The bill of quantities can also be exported, in "FIEBDC-3" format, from the "Bill of quantities" tab of each program, to then be used in cost management programs such as Arquimedes.

The "Bill of quantities" tab is also included in "Open BIM Quantities" (new program of the 2020.e version). Unlike other applications that include the "Bill of quantities" tab, "Open BIM Quantities" allows users to extract the quantities from BIM models that have been defined using the IFC standard (in their "Quantities of the BIM model" tab) . The other programs extract it from the installation that has been introduced in the program itself. Once the quantities have been extracted, the process to generate the bill of quantities in "Open BIM Quantities" is carried out in its "Bill of quantities" tab, as is done with the other Open BIM applications that contain the tab.

Automatic detection of the flow direction

When users introduce vertical pipes, the program automatically tags the initial and final elevation of the direction of flow of the liquid they are carrying (unless these elevations are blocked).

New vertical pipe editing

The “Edit” tool has been included in the “Pipes” section of the toolbar (for vertical pipes), with which users can view and edit, in a single window, all the spans of the vertical pipe they select.
