Installing a controlled mechanical ventilation (CMV) system
The installation of mechanical ventilation systems may vary depending on the manufacturer, as not all systems are installed in the same way. However, they share a basic structure:
Installations with rigid ducting
Rigid ducts are connected to the heat recovery unit to draw in and expel air to the outside of the property, terminating in weatherproof grilles. Rigid ducts are also used inside the property. Depending on the manufacturer, the air outlets can be connected directly to the duct or via a section of flexible ducting.
Installations with semi-rigid ducting
The connection between the heat recovery unit and the outside is also made using rigid ducts and weather-resistant grilles. For the internal distribution system, rigid ducts are used to connect to a plenum box. From there, semi-rigid ducts carry the air to the outlet plenums and, finally, to each supply or extract vent.
These are the basic principles of a mechanical ventilation system. However, each manufacturer tailors the solution to the project’s dimensions, airflow requirements and the specific characteristics of the installation, incorporating different components and configurations.
Below is a variant for a mechanical ventilation system using equipment from Zehnder, with semi-flexible ducts, box-type silencers and non-integrated connection plates:
- Weather grille (under "Air distribution", "Air outlets", "Grille")
- Zehnder ComfoPipe Compact circular rigid duct (under "Air distribution", "Ducts", "Rigid duct").
- Zehnder ComfoAir heat recovery unit (under "Air distribution", "Equipment", "Heat recovery unit").
- Zehnder ComfoPipe Compact circular rigid duct (under "Air distribution", "Ducts", "Rigid duct").
- Zehnder CW connection plate (under "Air distribution", "Equipment", "End piece").
- Zehnder ComfoWell silencer (under "Air distribution", "Equipment", "Silencer").
- Zehnder CW ComfoTube distribution panel (under "Air distribution", "Equipment", "End piece").
- Zehnder ComfoTubeFlex circular semi-flexible duct (under "Air distribution", "Ducts", "Semi-flexible duct").
- Vent plenum (under "Air distribution", "Air outlets", "Plenum for outlet").
- Supply or extraction vent (from "Air Distribution", "Air Terminals", "Outlet").
