Defining curtain walls
In the building element libraries, "Curtain wall" elements let you simulate glazed openings by entering data for both the glazed fraction and, optionally, the opaque fraction:
- Reference
Curtain wall type reference. - "Glazed fraction" tab
- Heat transfer coefficient (U)
The thermal transmittance value of the glazed section. - Solar heat gain coefficient
- Heat transfer coefficient (U)
- "Opaque fraction" tab (optional)
- Heat transfer coefficient (U)
The heat transfer coefficient value of the opaque portion. - Opening opaque fraction
This parameter lets you define the proportion of opaque elements covering the total surface area of the curtain wall, as a ratio. - Absorptance
- Heat transfer coefficient (U)
- Air leakage rate for a reference pressure of 100 Pa (in the "Energy simulation" project type)
The options on the right can be used to "Import" and "Export" these settings to .bib687 files on your hard drive.

| In the "3D Model" tab, a curtain wall is entered as a "Façade". It must then be defined in the element library on the "Building" tab using the "Curtain wall" type. |
