Plugin Open BIM – Revit

View requirements and incidents of the Open BIM project

As of the 2020.a version, the "Plugin Open BIM - Revit" allows users to view the incidents and requirements of BIM Open projects of the BIMserver.center platform in Revit.

To do so, an "Incidents" section has been implemented in the plug-in. From this new section of the plug-in, users can consult the name, date, author, description and an image of the requirements and incidents.

By double clicking on one of the incidents that appears in the new section, Revit will show the element to which the incident refers to in the active window, which helps to easily detect the error in the project.

Compatibility of “Revit® 2020” with CYPE programs

As of the 2019.h version, the CYPE "plugin" for Revit, "Open BIM complement for Revit" and "Bill of quantities of Revit models", are compatible with the 2020 version of Revit.

64-bit Version

As of the 2019.f version, CYPE programs (those downloaded from our website and those downloaded from the BIMserver.center platform) are compiled for 64-bit systems. The 64-bit compilation of CYPE software implies the use of the superior features of 64-bit processors and operating systems compared to those of 32 bits.

Please bear in mind that you must have a 64-bit operating system to be able to work with any 64-bit software.

In any case and as a temporary measure, the 2019.f version is available in 64 and 32 bits on the download area of our webpage. The programs that can be downloaded from the BIMserver.center platform are only available in 64 bits. If you have a 64-bit operating system, you can work with either the 64-bit and 32-bit version of our software, although we strongly recommend that you install the 64-bit CYPE software version.

You can see which operating system is installed on your computer by clicking on "Control panel > System".

Since 64-bit microprocessors began to be massively introduced into personal computers from 2003 and from the Windows XP version, Microsoft already offers the two versions of its operating systems (32 and 64 bits). We understand that almost all our users will have computers with 64-bit processors (x64) and 64-bit operating systems.

It could occur that a user may wish to work with a computer with a 64-bit processor but with a 32-bit operating system. It would be very strange if the computer had a 32-bit processor (x86 - computers over 15 years old). If any of these is your case, we advise you to talk to your hardware or software provider to update your situation as soon as possible. However, you can download the 32-bit version and work with CYPE programs that can be downloaded from our website until your situation is up-to-date.

Compatibility of “Revit® 2019” with CYPE programs

As of the 2018.l version of CYPE, the complements that have been developed for Revit (“Open BIM complement” and “Bill of quantities of Revit models”) are compatible with the 2019 version of Revit.

Generation of the 3D view of the Revit model in BIMserver.center

When the “Open BIM complement for Revit” exports the architectural model to the project located in the BIMserver.center platform, a “.GLTF” file is generated (as well as the IFC file), which allows users to view the 3D view of the REVIT project in the BIMserver.center platform, using the Web version and application (App) for mobile devices.

Export data to BIMserver.center

3D viewer

Since the 3D view in “GLTF” format was implemented in the 2018.i version of programs that are integrated in the Open BIM workflow, 3D models can be viewed using the viewer that is integrated in the BIMserver.center web platform and using the application (App) for mobile devices.

As of the 2018.k version, the information that is exported to the 3D viewer of BIMserver.center is increased for the following CYPE programs:

Documents and drawings

As of the 2018.k version, the following CYPE programs incorporate more documents to BIM projects located in the BIMserver.center platform:

  • CYPELUX, CYPELUX CTE, CYPELUX RECS, CYPELUX LEED y CYPELUX HQE
The drawings that are elaborated by these applications are exported as documents attached to the IFC file. More information can be found in the “Export drawings to the BIM project” section.

  • CYPELUX LEED y CYPELUX HQE
The justification reports of each certification and the drawings of the project are exported. More information can be found in the “Export drawings and documents to the BIM project” section.

Compatibility of “Revit 2018” and CYPE programs

The plug-ins for Revit of the 2017.l version of CYPE: “Open BIM complement for Revit” and “Bill of quantities of Revit models” are compatible with the 2018 version of Revit.

Open BIM add-in for Revit (new program)

The 2017.f version of CYPE programs includes an add-in for Revit from AutoDesk©, which includes Revit in the Open BIM workflow.

Since CYPE initiated the integration of its programs in a collaborative, multidisciplinary and multi-user Open BIM workflow, applications of other software manufacturers have been able to participate in this project development system by interchanging information using IFC files.

With the Open BIM add-in for Revit, communication between Revit and CYPE’s group of specialised tools is improved. This way, the BIM workflow of projects modelled in Revit and analysed with CYPE programs, is optimised.

The following sub-sections describe the improvements this CYPE add-in provides for Revit:

  • Open BIM workflow
  • Project modification updates
  • Automatic configuration of the export to IFC from the add-in
  • Collaboration in the cloud (BIMserver.center®)

Features of the Open BIM add-in for Revit

Open BIM workflow

With the "Open BIM add-in for Revit", users can directly begin an Open BIM project in Revit. This way the architectural model can communicate with CYPE's simulation programs, and so achieving a two-way collaboration in real time amongst the various disciplines of the project and Revit using IFC interchange files. This collaboration can be carried out locally (the IFC files making up the project are in a local or internal network directory) or in the cloud (using the BIMserver.center® platform).

Project modification updates

CYPE's Open BIM add-in for Revit informs Revit users of the modifications that have been generated in the projects of the different disciplines, allowing them to decide whether to update the information of the project or not. Without this add-in, i.e. with only the direct link to Revit using IFC format files, users must update the project in Revit.

Automatic configuration of the export to IFC from the add-in

The export process to an IFC file using the Open BIM add-in for Revit, automatically optimises the IFC file that is generated so that CYPE programs can interpret it correctly, as long as the modelling of the project in Revit has also been introduced correctly.

Collaboration in the cloud (BIMserver.center®)

Using CYPE's Open BIM add-in for Revit, the Autodesk application can use the BIMserver.center® service directly. "BIMserver.center®" is a service managed by CYPE to save, synchronise and share BIM project files. This service offers:

  • Safe storage in the cloud of BIM project files. All intervening agents can access it from any device and share them in a coordinated manner.

  • Acts as a collaboration platform to centralise all files in real time.

  • Optimises BIM workflow and communication amongst professionals.

  • Until now, only CYPE programs could use the BIM storage service for projects. Now Revit, using the new Open BIM add-in created by CYPE can also use this service, regardless of whether or not there is a connection to other CYPE programs.

Installation of the Open BIM add-in for Revit

Users can install the Open BIM add-in for Revit the CYPE program menu, by selecting the Install Open BIM add-in for Revit tool.

To be able to install the add-in, Revit (2015 version or higher) must be installed on the same computer where the add-in installation will be executed.

User license

The "Open BIM add-in for Revit" is a free access application. Logically, for it to operate users must hold a Revit user license (2015 version or higher, with the IFC 2015 or IFC 2016 add-in – higher versions of Revit already include this add-in).

If users also wish to include their Revit projects in the Open BIM workflow with CYPE programs, they must hold a CYPE program user license (2017.f version or higher), which includes the programs on which they wish to collaborate.
