Punching shear verification

Updating the CYPE Menu applications

As of version 2024.f, the CYPE Menu tool (available on the BIMserver.centre platform Store) allows users to manage the updates of the applications it includes.

When accessing the CYPE Menu, the program checks whether there is a newer version of the installed applications and, if so, the "Update" option appears next to them.

The update process will download the application and, once completed, will start the installation.

64-bit Version

As of the 2019.f version, CYPE programs (those downloaded from our website and those downloaded from the BIMserver.center platform) are compiled for 64-bit systems. The 64-bit compilation of CYPE software implies the use of the superior features of 64-bit processors and operating systems compared to those of 32 bits.

Please bear in mind that you must have a 64-bit operating system to be able to work with any 64-bit software.

In any case and as a temporary measure, the 2019.f version is available in 64 and 32 bits on the download area of our webpage. The programs that can be downloaded from the BIMserver.center platform are only available in 64 bits. If you have a 64-bit operating system, you can work with either the 64-bit and 32-bit version of our software, although we strongly recommend that you install the 64-bit CYPE software version.

You can see which operating system is installed on your computer by clicking on "Control panel > System".

Since 64-bit microprocessors began to be massively introduced into personal computers from 2003 and from the Windows XP version, Microsoft already offers the two versions of its operating systems (32 and 64 bits). We understand that almost all our users will have computers with 64-bit processors (x64) and 64-bit operating systems.

It could occur that a user may wish to work with a computer with a 64-bit processor but with a 32-bit operating system. It would be very strange if the computer had a 32-bit processor (x86 - computers over 15 years old). If any of these is your case, we advise you to talk to your hardware or software provider to update your situation as soon as possible. However, you can download the 32-bit version and work with CYPE programs that can be downloaded from our website until your situation is up-to-date.

Improved code application. BAEL-91 (R99) (France) and NTCRC: 2004 (Mexico)

  • NTCRC:2004 (Mexico)
Normas técnicas complementarias del reglamento de construcciones para el Distrito Federal

These codes were already implemented in CYPECAD, CYPE 3D and other CYPE programs as of previous versions. Now, in the 2015.e version, these codes are implemented in “Punching shear verification” and hence, also in the punching shear check carried out by CYPECAD in accordance with code criteria. This check was implemented in CYPECAD in the 2015.a version and, since then, coexists with the tangential stress check.

Code implementation

As indicated in the previous sections, the “CIRSOC 201 2005” code (Argentina) and “IS 456: 2000” code (India) have been implemented in “Punching shear verification” and CYPECAD (for punching shear check in accordance with code criteria).

Improved code application. CIRSOC 201 2005 (Argentina) and IS 456: 2000 (India)

  • CIRSOC 201-2005 (Argentina)
Reglamento Argentino de Estructuras de Hormigón CIRSOC 201 (Julio 2005).
  • IS 456: 2000 (India)
Indian Standard. Plain and reinforced concrete code of practice (Fourth Revision).

These codes were already implemented in CYPECADCYPE 3D and other CYPE programs as of previous versions. Now, with the 2015.d version, the codes are implemented in “Punching shear verification” and therefore in the punching shear checks carried out by CYPECAD, in accordance with code criteria. This check was implemented in CYPECAD in the 2015.a version and, since then, coexists with the tangential stress check.

Code implementation

The 2015.b version of the “Punching shear verification” program includes the following codes: ACI 318M-08 (USA), Nch430.Of2008 (Chile), NTE E.060: 2009 (Peru) and NSR-10 (Colombia).

More information on this implementation can be found here.

These design codes were already implemented in CYPECAD, CYPE 3D and other CYPE programs as of previous versions. Now, with the 2015.b version, the codes have been implemented in “Punching shear verification” and hence, also in the punching shear verification carried out by CYPECAD. This check was implemented in CYPECAD in the previous version (2015.a) and coexists since then with the tangential stress check.

Punching shear reinforcement using beams

The 2013.k version of Punching shear verification allows users to provide reinforcement using beams. Now, the Types of reinforcement dialogue box (General data > Punching shear reinforcement > Edit or create a type of reinforcement) includes the possibility to select a Beam or Crossed beams as well as reinforcement at 45º. Several beams can be included in one or both directions (appropriate for punching shear reinforcement in the case of very wide columns).

Implementation of the ABNT NBR 6118:2007 (Brazil) concrete code

A new program, Punching shear verification, was implemented in the 2013.e version. This program, which can be executed from the Structural elements group of the main CYPE program menu, checks the Failure Limit State of concrete for punching shear in flat and waffle slabs exposed to concentrated loads from rectangular or circular supports. The program can check slabs with or without transverse punching shear reinforcement, takes into account the presence of openings or lightweight zones in the slab, and the position of the supports (internal, edge or corner).

Now, for the 2013.j version, the ABNT NBR 6118:2007 (Brazil) code has been implemented in Punching shear verification, which was already available in other CYPE programs. More information on the implemented codes can be seen in the Implemented codes section of the Punching shear verification page.
