General description
CYPE programs allow users to analyse and design surface and deep foundations: footings and pile caps with strap and tie beams, mat foundations and foundation beams.
The analysis and design of footings and pile caps form part of the modules that are common to CYPECAD and CYPE 3D. Mat foundations and foundation beams are exclusive to CYPECAD. The aforementioned programs also analyse and design steel column baseplates bearing on the foundations that are being designed. The elements related to the foundations of a structure resolved with CYPE software are:
- Footings
Using the Footings module, CYPECAD and CYPE 3D can design foundations resolved using rigid reinforced concrete footings or rigid mass concrete footings. These may be single column or shear wall footings or combined footings with several columns and/or shear walls bearing on them, their arrangement left to the user’s choice. This module also designs strip footings below walls as well as any strap and tie beams that have been defined.
More information on this module, common to CYPECAD and CYPE 3D, can be found at Footing analysis and design. - Pile caps
Using the Pile caps module, CYPECAD and CYPE 3D allow for users to choose from a wide range of pile cap types (linear, triangular, rectangular, pentagonal and hexagonal) and provide their design, as well as having the option to provide strap and tie beams.
More information on this module, common to CYPECAD and CYPE 3D, can be found at Pile cap analysis and design. - Advanced design of surface foundations
This module complements the Footings and Pile caps modules. It allows for the design of foundations composed of footings or pile caps with special intersections (strap and tie beam intersections) and geometrical trimming of the footings.
More information on this module, common to CYPECAD and CYPE 3D, can be found at Advanced design of surface foundations. - Mat foundations and foundation beams
The Mat foundations and foundation beams module is exclusive to CYPECAD and allows this program to design foundations containing mat foundations and foundation beams. The mat foundations and foundation beams are considered to be supported on an elastic foundation (ballast coefficient method), according to the Winkler model, based on a constant of proportions between forces and displacements, the value of which is the ballast coefficient.
Foundation beams and mat foundations are part of the overall structure and therefore interact with the rest of the structure (they are part of the overall stiffness matrix of the structure). Therefore, loads can be applied to these elements, as well as to any beam or slab of the structure they are part of.
The limit states to be checked are those applicable to the design of reinforced concrete elements (ultimate limit states), and force, equilibrium, and uplift checks (serviceability limit states).
Information on the punching shear verification that CYPECAD carries out on mat foundation. - Baseplates
CYPECAD and CYPE 3D contain several modules which allow users to analyse and design baseplates, the Joints I, Joints II, Joints III, Joints IV and Joints V modules and the Baseplates module.
