CYPE Lightning

"Bill of quantities" tab in project phase Open BIM applications

The "Bill of quantities" tab has been added to the toolbar of some of the applications that are integrated in the Open BIM workflow. In the 2020.e version, the first Open BIM programs to have this tab are:

  • Open BIM Quantities (new program of the 2020.e version)
  • CYPE Accessibility
  • CYPE Lightning
  • CYPEPLUMBING Sanitary Systems
  • CYPEPLUMBING Water Systems
  • CYPEPLUMBING Solar Systems
  • CYPEFIRE Hydraulic Systems
  • CYPEHVAC
  • CYPEHVAC Ductwork

This tab will be integrated into the remaining Open BIM applications in upcoming versions.

The "Bill of quantities" tab provides users with tools to generate and manage the bill of quantities of the installation that each program analyses. Within this tab, users can extract the quantities of the model and, based on that information, generate the real project items. This process is carried out using a correspondence system between the elements that have been measured in the design model and the concepts of the bill of quantities (mapping). This equivalence is stored on a local drive or network, so that it can be extended progressively and used in future projects.

In order to enter project prices easily, users can import complete databases as well as individual concepts from cost databases that have been developed in accordance with the FIEBDC-3 standard (.bc3), such as the CYPE construction cost database Generador de precios.

A cost database and mapping example have been included for installation elements for most of the programs that have the bill of quantities tab. Remember that they are just examples and you can create your own mappings and cost databases.

The documents of the bill of quantities can be extracted in several types of reports (Quantities, Cost breakdown structure, Priced bill of quantities, Detailed priced bill of quantities, BoQ summary) and can be exported in HTML, DOCX, PDF, RTF and TXT formats.

The bill of quantities can also be exported, in "FIEBDC-3" format, from the "Bill of quantities" tab of each program, to then be used in cost management programs such as Arquimedes.

The "Bill of quantities" tab is also included in "Open BIM Quantities" (new program of the 2020.e version). Unlike other applications that include the "Bill of quantities" tab, "Open BIM Quantities" allows users to extract the quantities from BIM models that have been defined using the IFC standard (in their "Quantities of the BIM model" tab) . The other programs extract it from the installation that has been introduced in the program itself. Once the quantities have been extracted, the process to generate the bill of quantities in "Open BIM Quantities" is carried out in its "Bill of quantities" tab, as is done with the other Open BIM applications that contain the tab.

Improvements in the 3D environment of the application

As of the 2020.a version, "CYPE Lightning" has begun to use a new 3D work environment with significant visual and functional improvements in the application. To adapt the user interface to this implementation, the "View" tab has been added to the toolbar of the program and the list of floor plans has been transformed in the view navigator.

Now users can generate different total or partial representations of the building model. These will be added to the view navigator located on the left side of the work area. It is important to note that the views are not linked to the data structure of the project, so that they can be created, modified and deleted without affecting the underlying model.

Each view has several associated configuration parameters, such as the range of vision and the level elevation, which vary depending on the type of view. In this version the following types of views are available:

  • Floor plan
Floor plans are representations of the building on a horizontal plane viewed from above.
  • Ceiling plan
Ceiling plans, like the floor plans, are representations of the building on a horizontal plane but, in this case, seen from below.

  • Elevation
Elevation views are representations of the building on a plane that is perpendicular to the horizontal plane of the project.

  • Section
Section views are cuts of the building that are perpendicular to the horizontal plane of the work.

  • Generic plan
In a generic plan, the view is generated from a plane that is located anywhere in the space.

  • Vista 3D
Users can create several 3D representations of the model with different visibility options and camera positions.

Finally, the "Object snap options" panel has been modified so users can modify the visibility and references to objects of the project elements independently. This way, the components of the design model can be superimposed with those of the digital model of the building defined in the BIMserver.center platform project using other Open BIM tools.

64-bit Version

As of the 2019.f version, CYPE programs (those downloaded from our website and those downloaded from the BIMserver.center platform) are compiled for 64-bit systems. The 64-bit compilation of CYPE software implies the use of the superior features of 64-bit processors and operating systems compared to those of 32 bits.

Please bear in mind that you must have a 64-bit operating system to be able to work with any 64-bit software.

In any case and as a temporary measure, the 2019.f version is available in 64 and 32 bits on the download area of our webpage. The programs that can be downloaded from the BIMserver.center platform are only available in 64 bits. If you have a 64-bit operating system, you can work with either the 64-bit and 32-bit version of our software, although we strongly recommend that you install the 64-bit CYPE software version.

You can see which operating system is installed on your computer by clicking on "Control panel > System".

Since 64-bit microprocessors began to be massively introduced into personal computers from 2003 and from the Windows XP version, Microsoft already offers the two versions of its operating systems (32 and 64 bits). We understand that almost all our users will have computers with 64-bit processors (x64) and 64-bit operating systems.

It could occur that a user may wish to work with a computer with a 64-bit processor but with a 32-bit operating system. It would be very strange if the computer had a 32-bit processor (x86 - computers over 15 years old). If any of these is your case, we advise you to talk to your hardware or software provider to update your situation as soon as possible. However, you can download the 32-bit version and work with CYPE programs that can be downloaded from our website until your situation is up-to-date.

CYPE Lightning (new program)

CYPE Lightning is a free application designed to carry out the 3D layout of the elements of a lightning safety installation in any type of building, complying with the requirements imposed by users.

The program calculates, verifies and describes the safety installation including all the elements it consists of: ESE type lightning rod (early streamer emission lightning conductor), boxes with their respective grounding connections, connections with metal elements on façades and with receiver sets (antennas), grounding conductors, etc. The program, additionally, generate documents and relevant drawings to justify the lightning protection installation.

"CYPE Lightning" is integrated in the Open BIM workflow using the IFC standard. The program imports the geometry of the building from the BIM model (generated by CAD/BIM programs such as IFC Builder, Allplan, Archicad or Revit) and, if the risk level of the project has been evaluated with the "Open BIM CTE SUA 8" application, the value of the distance to the centre of the fictitious sphere, D, which describes the protection volume of the ESE, can be obtained from the BIM project.

Furthermore, "CYPE Lightning" exports an IFC file to the BIM model, containing the document that justifies the standard (.pdf). It also generates two independent 3D files (.gltf) to be able to view the lightning protection installation, as well as the properties of each element, and the protection volume in the web viewer of the BIMserver.center platform.

CYPE Lightning can be downloaded from the BIMserver.center platform.

More information on this new CYPE Open BIM program will be available shortly.
