Update history

CYPECAD

As of version 2025.a, the CYPE program menu can only be downloaded from the BIMserver.center platform.

The CYPE Menu application was already available from version 2024.b on the BIMserver.center platform. Now, in version 2025.a, the advantages of CYPE Menu compared to previous versions, which were downloaded from the download area of the CYPE website, are as follows:

  • As of version 2024.b
    • Once CYPE Menu has been installed, the applications it contains will be installed from this new menu when they are opened for the first time.

  • As of version 2024.f
    • CYPE Menu allows users to manage the updates of the applications it contains.

  • As of version 2025.a
    • New program groups and many CYPE applications that could only be downloaded directly from BIMserver.center are included.
    • The version of each application to be installed can be selected (from version 2024 onwards).
    • Previously installed applications can be uninstalled.

Further information on the new features can be found in the following new features of CYPE Menu version 2025.a.

In the download area of the CYPE website, the download of the program menu for versions prior to 2025.a (in 64-bit and 32-bit) will still be available. In this download area, there is also a link to the BIMserver.center platform "Store" for downloading the 2025.a version of "CYPE Menu".

As a result of these changes, the 32-bit version of the CYPE Menu is no longer available in version 2025.a. As of 18 February 2019 (version 2019.f), the CYPE programs have been running on 64-bit systems. Since then, only the classic CYPE menu could be installed on 32-bit systems. All other applications (downloadable from the BIMserver.center platform) only worked on 64-bit systems. We believe that 32-bit programming is no longer feasible to take advantage of the superior performance of 64-bit processors and operating systems. Users who still want to use certain 32-bit CYPE programs (those available in the "CYPE Menu" prior to version 2025.a) must install a version prior to 2025.a from the download area of the CYPE website, but will not be able to upgrade their programs to later versions. Please refer to our FAQ question "Which version should I download, 64-bit or 32-bit?" for more information on the 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

Norma Brasileira ABNT NBR 6123:2023. Forças devidas ao vento em edificações.

Normative and Technical Document of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Design of structures for earthquake resistance. Part 1: General rules, seismic actions and rules for buildings.

Implemented in CYPECAD and CYPE 3D.

CYPECAD version 2024.f includes the following improvements and corrections to the program for some specific cases:

  • Pile cap covers. As of version 2024.f, the values for pile cap and footing coverings can be differentiated.

  • An error that occurred when checking the series of steel sections in the column editor, in cases where the lateral buckling length was greater than the clear height, has been solved, as it was sometimes possible for sections that didn't meet all the requirements of the standards to be proposed. In any case, the checking of the selected section was and is always correctly displayed in the main panel.

  • An error that occurred when designing the column stirrups in some specific cases has been solved. This error could occur when the base of the column was a footing, the base was also connected to a concrete wall and the height of the first section of the column was small (less than 1.5 metres).

  • An error that occurred when right-clicking on the option to generate bolt punching reinforcements has been fixed.

  • The transverse reinforcement spacing check of chapter 9.5.3 of the Spanish structural code "Código Estructural" (Annex 19) and Eurocode 2 is improved to consider point (4), which reduces the column transverse reinforcement spacing by a coefficient of 0.6 in the areas near the node.

  • The editing of ramp reinforcement has been improved for ramps with many reinforcement sections. In these cases, the editing could take a long time to open because the search for an optimal layout of the sections was very slow.

  • The import of columns has been improved when creating jobs from a BIMserver.center project. If the columns had been defined in blocks according to their fixed point, they could be imported without being considered correctly.

  • The "Edit - Types of ramps" option has been improved, as when selecting an "Intermediate support", instead of the selected support lighting up, the first section would light up.

  • The import of columns has been improved when creating jobs from a BIMserver.center project. For circular columns whose fixed point was not the centre and with an angle other than 0º, they were not imported in their correct position.

As of version 2024.f, CYPECAD generates the new "Consideration of second-order effects" report, which analyses whether P-Delta effects are to be taken into account in the analysis.

For this purpose, the stability coefficient or sensitivity coefficient (θ) is calculated per floor and per analysis direction for each seismic loadcase.

When the stability coefficient (θ) is lower than the minimum limit value (θmin), second-order effects can be neglected.

If the coefficient θ is between the minimum and maximum limit values set, θmin < θ ≤ θmax, second-order effects must be considered.

This can be simplified by considering the P-Delta effects, amplifying the effects of the seismic action. If the coefficient θ is higher than the maximum limit (θmax), the structure is potentially unstable and must be stiffened.

As of version 2024.f, the CYPE Menu tool (available on the BIMserver.centre platform Store) allows users to manage the updates of the applications it includes.

When accessing the CYPE Menu, the program checks whether there is a newer version of the installed applications and, if so, the "Update" option appears next to them.

The update process will download the application and, once completed, will start the installation.

CYPECAD version 2024.e includes the following improvements and corrections to the program for some specific cases:

  • The editing of project comments (General data > Project comments) has been improved. Previously, the description was plain text. As of version 2024.e, thanks to the new text editor, images can be included and the text can be formatted.

  • Now, when a column or a shear wall is moved in the "Column definition" tab, the foundation elements underneath it (pad footings or pile caps) are moved in unison, and this can be seen when selecting the "Beam definition" tab.

  • The "Stair options" and "Ramp options" have been improved. Users can now edit the "Specific weight of the fill".

  • The definition panel for the generic section of columns that appears when they are entered has been improved. The possibility to enter them by snapping a "DWG/DXF" template has been restored. This option was unintentionally lost due to a change made in previous versions.

  • The export of the positive reinforcement of in-situ joists and their 3D visualisation has been improved. The bends of these reinforcements are now displayed correctly. In previous versions, they were displayed as if they were the top reinforcement.

  • The export of footings affected by "Limits for polygonal footings" has been improved. Previously, they were exported with the original geometry, now the entered limits are taken into account.

  • The export of the reinforcement of caissons and their visualisation in 3D has been improved. Previously, if there was more than one in a pile cap, the reinforcement was not placed at the position of each caisson, but in the centre of the pile cap.

  • An error that occurred when importing a job with walls and beams, when no beam had all the necessary information for its import, has been fixed.

  • An error that occurred when accessing the panel to generate drawings has been fixed. This error could occur if there were defined metal section columns over a concrete column in the job. This error occurred unintentionally when fixing another error in a previous version.

  • The warning that used to appear when any beam overlapped with a foundation element has been removed. This warning prevented the job from being analysed. It is now only displayed if a centring or tie beam is not connected to a foundation element and overlaps with it.

  • The interface for selecting shear studs has been improved. Due to improvements made to the Open BIM Database, the way studs are selected has been slightly modified. Previously, studs downloaded from a manufacturer's catalogue and user-defined studs were included in a single library. In the current version, the selection is made independently for "Manufacturer's catalogues" or "User punching shear studs". Furthermore, the "Generate reinforcement" panel has been simplified.

  • The interface for selecting waffle slab forms when entering this panel type has been improved. Due to improvements made in the Open BIM Database, the way users select forms from manufacturers' catalogues and the user library has been slightly modified. Several forms can now be imported from a manufacturer's catalogue or a library without having to enter the selection panel as many times as the number of forms to be imported into the project.

By checking this option in "BIMserver.center" > "Share" or "Export" > "IFC", new unique identifiers (GUIDs) will be generated for the structural elements and therefore they will be considered as new project elements.

This option is useful in certain cases, such as when modelling a project with identical structures. Each element can now be generated with its own globally unique identifier (GUID) for each independent structure.

This allows users to draw each structural element independently within the project and avoid having to redo the job.

As of version 2024.e of CYPECAD, both the effective covers of floor slabs and waffle slabs and the clear covers can be edited.

The clear covers entered are used to correctly arrange the punching shear studs, to perform fire resistance checks more accurately and to determine the position of the reinforcement bars to be exported to the BIM model.

When reading older jobs, the clear cover is automatically assigned by deducting 5 mm from the effective cover.

In CYPECAD version 2024.e, in the "Column, shear wall and wall forces and reinforcement" report, the "Design values of the reduced axial force by column and by floor" chapter has been added, which shows the maximum design value of the reduced axial force, for the persistent-transient combinations and the seismic and accidental combinations.

This chapter is enabled for the following standards: Eurocode 2, Spanish structural code "Código Estructural" (Spain), BS-8110 (UK) and NTC (Italy).

The export of rebars from curved spans of staircases and ramps to the BIM model has been implemented.

In the current version of the program, CYPECAD exports the reinforcement of the following element types:

  • Concrete walls
  • Columns
  • Shear walls
  • Beam frames
  • Staircase
  • Ramps
  • Foundation elements (footings, pile caps, centring and tie beams)
  • Floor slabs (waffle slabs, joist slabs, hollow core slabs, composite slabs and flat slabs)
  • Corbels

These rebars can be viewed in StruBIM Rebar, along with rebars exported from the StruBIM Shear Walls program.

They can also be viewed in CYPECAD from the "Results" tab (Groups > 3D view with details).

In the "Edit reinforcement" option from CYPECAD's "Stairs" and "Ramps" menus, the bars of the longitudinal reinforcement can be divided at a point, generating the necessary overlap to guarantee the transmission of forces from one bar to the next. The division can be carried out manually or the program can choose to do it automatically, respecting the maximum length of the bars defined. Bars that have been previously divided can also be joined together.
